Space Cadet Bill Treble
BILL TREBLE
Wintaka
Canada's greatest pair ever was the partnership of Eric Murray and Sammy Kahela. When someone once asked Eric Murray--an accomplished attorney, writer and contender for the World Championship--what his greatest accomplishment was, he replied immediately: "I played with Kahela for 22 years and kept my sanity!" As amazing as this may be, Bill Treble has played with Colin Ward and Kenny Sired for just as long and still has all his marbles. This guy is a rock!

The 1C opening bid was strong and artificical, revealing 16+ HCPs. Kaltica's 1S response was game-forcing, showing a flat hand with 8+ HCPs. 1NT asked for a 4-card suit, while 2D promised 4 Hearts and less than 4 Spades.

The effect of this bidding was that Wintaka's 5-card Diamond suit remained hidden. Wintaka gave the defence a chance to go wrong by cashing the Spade Ace before attacking Diamonds -- in case anyone wanted to pitch, say, a Diamond.

Nice swindle, Billy!

N.B.: When playing with Colin "Kaltica" Ward, Bill plays the "Canadian Club". It is similar to Precision but with Asking Bids, different 2-level openings, weak 1H and 1S openings and non-forcing 1-over-1 responses. Expect lots of alerts!

Their carding is equally strange: Spot Card Count, KATARACT (King ATtitude, Ace Requests A CounT), Suit Preference in trumps and upside down attitude.

In case you were curious, "Wintaka" translates to "helper". Now, aren't you glad you didn't ask?
